Devlog #2 : First Week of Prototyping
INTRO
Hello!
This week we focused on the art bible, the demo prototype and the tech doc.
ART
Our main focus was working on the art bible, as we needed to have at least 50% of it finished.
Deciding on the layout composition and searching for good examples of what we wanted to use for our game proved to be the most challenging and time-consuming part of this process. While some of our artists were working on the art bible, the rest of the team focused on creating and testing different level layouts to determine the best option and why. Our main goal was to create a fun layout with a strong potential for incorporating a variety of exciting mechanics using portals.
We chose this layout because it includes areas that can only be accessed with the portal gun. Additionally, there are many spots where players can become stuck if they do not carefully consider their movements. Finally, there are several straight edges because the portal system is currently unable to function with curved edges, although we are actively working to address this limitation.
PROTOTYPE
For prototyping we tried to use cinemachine for the camera. We're still torn on wether or not to use a ortographic or perspective perspective.
We tested a few maps and decided on using this one.
The game still has a few bugs regarding the portals, it's playable and just needs more tweaking to be more fun. You can join with as many controllers as you can connect. Later we will limit this.
Whats next?
